Two Special DFS Events in October

1. I will be riding in NOLA to Angola, a 160-mile bike ride from New Orleans to Louisiana State Prison. The ride is taking place Oct 14-16. It will be my first visit to Angola, where many of our DFS collaborators are housed, and the ride is also a fundraiser for the Cornerstone Bus Project, which provides free transportation to family members with incarcerated loved ones. You can learn more about the ride and sponsor me by visiting and clicking the "donate" button. Make sure to include a note that your contribution is for Sarah Dahnke.

2. DFS will be in residence at Brooklyn Studios for Dance to develop a public performance, debuting October 21. The performance will be accompanied by a small gallery show of artwork created by individuals in solitary confinement. All ticket sales will go toward supporting Dances for Solidarity.

Artifacts and After Effects, a group show of work by Culture Push Fellows past and present, opens this Saturday at Westbeth Gallery. DFS will be exhibiting art by our incarcerated collaborators, a video piece, and holding ongoing performances of choreography created by our friends in solitary confinement.

Our performance schedule is as follows:
July 9 at 7pm*
July 15 at 7pm
July 16 at 6pm
July 23 at 6pm

In this performance, dancers Ashley Mathus Richard and Jennifer Roit will be taking choreography created by people in solitary confinement and translating it through their own formally trained, dancing bodies.

We will also have a letter writing station in the gallery space and hold two letter writing clinics on Wednesdays, July 13 and 20 from 6:30-8:30pm.
